TORTURE in the name of BEAUTY

heheh.
went for a "trial session" at London Weight Management yesterday after wrk.... my colleague Shamini convinced me to tag along with her....

And since the so called 1st time trial session costed $10, i thought there was no harm in going....

The place was in Bugis BHG (why the hell do they hv a slimming centre inside a clothes department store).

I thought at first that I would be paying $10 for just a consultancy.... where the person will advice Shamini and I abt our weight management and then discuss with Shamini what kind of slimming packages she can buy.

Turned out the consultancy part wasn't even half of it. They gave a free trial of their "Lavender Scrub" which, the consultant said, was for kg loss.

Firstly, we were brought to a room and told to take off ALL our clothes (yikes, not what i expected) and put on a pair of paper underwear and a robe

Then we were brought to take our weight (mine was 64kg... yay for losing arnd 4kg since the last time i weighed).

The skinny flat-chested china girl said: ur ideal weight is 48.6kg ...

Pui Pui!!!
Like real sia.... a 1.62m tall girl weighing 48.6kg? Not if she WANTS to hv boobs and an ass!!!
Does she take me for an idiot? I know my BMI and my ideal weight is somewhere around 52kg~~

If i weigh 48.6kg... I'd probably become an A-cup... and my hip bones would be sticking out in sharp angles (gee, thx alot for the big bones, mum)

Just trust it to the money-eating ppl to tell u how much u shld weigh....

Anyways, she then brought us to a steam bath... where we had to sit inside for 5-15 min to "open up our pores" so that the scrub would be effective.

Felt like a chinese dim-sum in a steaming basket... shrimp dumpling... siew mai... lor mai kai... xiao-long-bao.... steamed-egg... LOLS. (Shamini: gee thx, jac. now i feel like an egg.)

After the steam bath we were brought into a room individually and told to take off our robes (small towel covering only!!! AAAAARGH)
then the poor consultant came to measure me... lets just say that when i warned her i was ticklish it was an understatement.... she even complained to Shamini after measuring me that i was VERY VERY JUMPY

Next came the scrub.... naturally i nearly shrieked when the girl tried to rub me >_<>

My ass started feeling the burning... then after that my whole body was so hot that i started to sweat.... according to the girl, the fat was being broken down into water and then it would start being sweated out.....

I literally felt the sweat dripping off my body in tiny rivulets.... horror of horrors.... so that's what its like being baked slowly but surely.

Just as I was sure I was gonna die, the girl came in and "unwrapped" me....

After sitting there for 5 minutes, was finally ushered into the bath to wash off the scrub... which was so itchy i rinsed with soap 3 times...

Then we were served a disgusting protein shake which the girl insisted i had to finish... and it gave me a stomachache after that.

The girl gave Shamini a summary of the packages they had... which were EXPENSIVE. for 5 of their (torturing) steam bath, lavender scrub and whatever-wrap, they charge like... $1.5k...

Thankfully the consultant didn't waste time trying to preach her slaes routine to me... I guess she realised that i would much rather run 20 miles a wk than go let ppl rub me while i'm 90% naked.... LOLs...

and she probably didnt want to touch me again after all my touchiness either.

How the hell could women bear spending $1500 for 5 sessions of weekly torturing (steaming, wrapping, baking, getting measured, drinking disgusting sloshy protein shake) instead of exercising? I will NEVER figure it out.

Artemis Fowl and the Time Paradox

The 6th book of the Artemis Fowl series was just released...

Went to Popular to buy the book and the auntie said they were temporarily sold out. O_O made me think wow.

So i downloaded a copy of the book that some kind soul scanned and put online.

BIG DISAPPOINTMENT

As the storyline progressed, I kept thinking WTF. If not for the fact that I read an excerpt on the official Artemis Fowl website earlier and saw that part in the book, I might have thought I was getting totally SUCKERED by someone who wrote a fake version and posted it online.

Firstly, the storyline hardly progressed at all. I understand that there was a big leap in plot since Arty disappeared for 3 yrs while in Limbo, and that during that time he got a new pair of twin siblings, but not only has the humour almost disappeared and Arty has mellowed so much that he just isn't the exciting criminal mastermind anymore.....

BUT come'on! Butler NOT going with him into his newest adventure???? That's really too much. Not to mention the fact that I was going all-out with the idea that Arty's finally met a GIRL who's every bit as genius as him. And not to mention Minerva likes him too.

And what happens? Holly Short the 100+ yr old elf who's supposed to be good buddies with him goes all teenager after time-travelling and kisses him. YUCKS! YUCKS YUCKS YUCKS YUCKS! A century old elf and a 14 yr old boy? I think not!

Not to mention that this time around the story jumps into the adventure all too quickly. I just don't see the plot unfolding. First Arty's mother gets sick and they immediately jump into the past to find her antidote. What happened to using your brain and thinking of a solution first?

Every book has a miraculous Artemis Fowl come-back. Arty's trump-card was just simply TOO BORING. Not to mention... HELLO? ANOTHER SAME-OLD VILLAIN????? Isn't Opal Koboi coming back waaaaaay too many times?

1st book villain: Artemis himself! yay!
2nd book villain: Opal Koboi (and Artemis Senior's kidnappers)
3rd book villain: Jon Spiro
4th book villain: Opal Koboi (escaped from prison)
5th book villain: Demons from Limbo!
6th book villain: Opal Koboi (time-travelling to crush Artemis again)

It's getting abit boring, Eoin Colfer. Admit it. Not to mention that she gets away YET AGAIN at the end of the 6th book. Yikes. Do the readers hv to read abt Koboi's megalomania some more?

Worklife...

is surprisingly not as boring as I expected... Mostly because of my boss i suppose. haha.

To describe my boss Anne, all you need is one word, yet if you wanna describe the things she does, there is a seemingly endless list.

Since she is on leave todae (and the other colleagues aren't giving me much work) i have the time to collate my seemingly endless list i suppose...

The one word is... Chatty. lols.

She is talkative, loves her dog alot (is it juz me or is it the lonely old spinster type of women who love their dog like they would love a man or a child), and she is PERVERTED!

She talks abt which guys' asses are smooth, how she hates attending gala dinners coz the designers are all gay, and changes the topics abruptly from eating lunch to farting....
And it gets worse... haha...

and for someone who used to work big-time in mediacorp she doesnt know what R21 is...

I guess in the mind of a pervy woman, ratings do not exist.

The male colleagues (yes, all the other colleagues in my corner of the department are males. the rest are at the other side of our office) are starting to warn her not to be a bad influence on me (20 yr old cannot teach R21 lar!!!)

But of course, after awhile she goes right back and starts again... lol.

Life has become abit monotonous... work work work... take bus (1 hr) bath eat sleep.... work work work...

then abit of shopping ... bought a dark brown tube dress at the This Fashion at Peninsula Plaza, just outside Funan Mall... $15 yay

then went for window shopping during lunch break with Shamini (indian colleague) at clark quay central... saw alot of nice dresses, but most were EXPENSIVE =(

~~~
The teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince has been released! i pity the company that's in charge of the official release for the trailer.... the trailer appeared on msn.com 1 hr b4 the official release time~~
Hvn't watched the trailer yet... cant watch it on my company's com...
The news has also been out: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into 2 movies!!! It will be released late 2009 and early 2010!!! Finally they realise that their movies need more time~~~
Here's the trailer:
not exactly as gd as i would've hoped.... a teaser's supposed to be exciting! For one thing, Dumbledore wasn't exactly as intense as I hoped he would be (i hv a natural bias against him since the first actor of Dumbledore died) and of course Harry,who's staying in the movies just for the sake of staying.... leaves alot to be desired. As for the young Marvolo, perhaps it's a little too early to judge him yet.
Sigh....
1st Day of Work
What's up So Far:
~ The person from the IT department is busy configuring other ppl's desktop and mine is halfway connected to the company's network
~ My supervisor's gone for 2 meetings so far and I'm currently the only person sitting in my department.
~ I can't even login to our company website
~ I have no idea how to use LotusNotes yet.
~ I finally hv access to the Internet..
~ I am NOT allowed to chat on MSN. But we shall see about dat... heheh >_< ~ I have been coerced into signing a confidentiality form... ~ One of my ex-classmate's is now my new colleague! Sabby from RP... sigh. at least she's nice, even though she hung out with certain ppl back then... bet 3/4 of my ex-classmates have received the gossips At least I can browse the Internet a little... saw something damn exciting... http://www.stepheniemeyer.com/twilight_movie.html
My current craze author has her 1st book made into a movie!!! It's already in post-production... yay. $37 million was spent on making it. So far, she's released 3 books out of 4 of her Twilight series. Hope the movie will be every bit as romantic, thrilling, witty and INTENSE as the books are... i already like the main actresses and actors acting in it... Hope they will portray the sexy Cullen family vampires properly!!!
The 4th and last book for the series will be coming out on the 4th Aug... maybe i will go queue for the book at Popular ^^ been a long time since i queued for a book release (Since book 7 of Harry Potter series, to be exact)
The Teaser Trailer of Twilight. Watch Edward.... his acting is INTENSE!!!!! I think he can portray Edward pretty well.... needs to be a little more inhuman in his movements, though. Still, eye-candy!!! >_<
Whole day out
Finally.... the good news.
Starting work next Monday, 21st July! Huzzah huzzah!!!
Woke up at 7.30am... been a long time since i did that.
Went for interview yesterday morning 10am at the MICA building... a much nicer and cosier looking workplace than all the other places I visited before. Naturally, being the office HQ for Singapore Arts Council, MOSAIC gallery, etc all the arts societies of Singapore, the place was more artfully designed than those dead looking company buildings that only sported grey, black, brown and white =.='''
The entrance still had the sign that said Hill Street Police Station, but i thought the old building suited my taste more... it made me feel less... out of place and younger... haha. Entering the place, i immediately saw a few art sculptures, and a filming crew shooting the statue. Their equipment were so much smaller and expensive looking than the kind that my school used to rent out to us for our projects.
Went to the 5th floor; the Ministry of Information, Communication and the Arts. Quite a mouthful, so it's shortened into MICA.
The interview room was a freaking huge conference room. The 2 women interviewing me immed. said: dun b intimidated... haha. Gave me the feeling that they weren't the zombie-type immediately. Wat a relief.
The interview went fine... then i recognised one of the women interviewing me. Should've known.
Saw her on TV b4. She told me she was ex-mediacorp. And she was gonna be my boss. Ah, well.
Could tell that they were the hyper type of ppl... yay. No zombies there.
So... passed the interview rather quickly. Must b bcoz I studied something similar to the company's job scope in poly. Who knew... poly experience actually came in useful... despite how lousy my sch was.
Then went to Causeway Point to watch Batman: The Dark Knight.
The movie was quite excellent.
But no comedy in there.
Was a little saddening too... The woman Bruce Wayne loved died.
The Joker and the Trickster appeared in the movie. Trickster died. Of course, Joker didn't, coz there'd be no arch-enemy if he did. But the actor who acted as the Joker is already dead... so...
From the way the movie ended, there's a possibility that there might not be another sequel made.
The coolest thing in the movie by far:
The humungous bat-bike. The bat-mobile broke down... then it ejected this bike... with 2 guns at the front... lol.
Then after the movie my bro and i went to the Recruit Agency at Raffles Place so that I could sign my final documents and get my time-sheet for the job. Went through a few final details...
  • $7/hr, 1.5x for OT hrs and Saturdays, 2x for Sundays and PH
  • Payroll processed by Recruit Express on the 15th and 30/31st mthly...
  • Certain rules...
  • Contract ends on 19th Dec, maybe then i can sign another contract or change to perm staff
Then miracles of miracles. My bro blanjah... We went to vivocity (coz we were bored and didn't know where else to go) Had a chocolate fondue at Haagen Daaz.. the price was staggering... considering the comparison with Andersens and Swensens... the bill came out as $51.60... But my brother has always been known to spend money on chocolates... so not such a huge surprise there, lol. My fav part of the fondue was the pieces of pound cake dipped in chocolate... Sigh... the rich taste of pound cake with chocolate was heaven.
Spotted a black bangle-watch with rhinestones. Something new on my wishlist.
kinda miss singing
Went KTV PartyWorld with Sea-shell n Mr.K on Wed evening... with 3 ppl finally the 3 of us had our share of singing time... haha! gd to sing without other ppl suddenly snatching up the mic and defacing ur fav song suddenly...
Went crazy on F.I.R songs... (just about the only chinese band i really like) am glad to say i didn't totally destroy the wonderful female lead's singing... couldn't hit some of the crazy whistle-register notes.. but at least i didn't shriek and fail loudly in the mic... sang abt 5 or 6 of F.I.R songs at one go... those high-pitch songs can really take the mickey out of anyone >_<
Most importantly, it made me miss my a-cappella singing back in poly... even though not all the songs were wonderful (Christmas carolling = 5 mths of crooning Santa Clause is coming to town). Had alot of fun and performances... even though we didn't earn much.
Recalled the time we had an acappella performance in a wedding church.... This crazy ang-moh couple wanted a simple wedding at a tiny tiny church... we all had only 3 wks to prepare the song to sing... sang Truly,Madly,Deeply gospel style sia. The whole thing was fun and even though we screwed up the song (thx Ronny) the couple were so happy they gave us an extra $300 angbao (which was divided amongst 20 ppl and disappeared into a tiny tiny amount).
Most of all the singing i miss... other than those crazy bunch of pals; PK n Rafie the jokers, Cindy n Beverly the ti-ko-girls(my mum was the one who nicknamed them), and the others.
Maybe shld sing more often... realised that my singing range has really gone down the drain... Angie'd kill me if she heard my singing now... notes that were much easier are now so much harder to hit... my medium range suffered the most... sigh... can't believe i actually thought of going professional. Mum would've probably murdered me if i ever suggested it anyway. Not easy to start an acappella group in Singapore too.
I'd need:
~to be able to read tadpoles (my piano experience is limited to playing Mary had a Little Lamb)
~a good vocal percussionist
~a good leader
~a good bass singer who has a proper sense of rhythm
~a good band name
~someone to sponsor and endorse us... and to sign us up as an official group under The Singapore Acappella Society
I'd probably end up becoming manager cum member... hv to organise everything... I'd die of exhaustion. Best keep singing as a hobby ^^ that way can enjoy and dun hv to meet nasty ppl
Update....
Been told to update my bloggie... hahas. hvn't blogged for a pretty long time.
Been up to nth much. Slacking at home and job-hunting. Watching movies online and reading my beloved books.
Went to the stupid infamous Recruit Agency yesterday. Applied for a temp/contract bank position, then that Veron said that she had other positions and asked me if i was interested... then she would send the company my resume....
Whole lot of help sia. Like i dunno how to use email... wat kind of agency is this. Ever since yesterday call me 4 times asking me whether i was interested in this job, that job, blah blah blahs.
Also went to IMM ytd with Ba0-bei... she called after i got home from the stinking so-called "interview" and then asked me if i wanted to go out... Went to IMM and had an Andersen's Ice-Cream Fondue. the fondue was too sweet... and the fruits were sour. The strawberries sucked and the banana.... well, lets just say we had to ask the waitress to change the fruit. The 5 scoops of ice-cream that came with the fondue was not dat gd either.
Then we went to Daiso for some aimless browsing. Bought a double-pronged hairpin... can't believe they sell the pin for 2 bucks when places like Aries sold them for like 7-8 bucks. The pin was ok looking... white and pink beads... and this ugly furball on it... but hey. 2 bucks... i just had to pluck off the stupid furball rite?
Also bought a japanese-style bamboo blind. The Japanese use this as window-blinds... but Bao-bei and me definitely had a different usage for it... haha.
Ta-daa.
(added the pic finally)
realised that i hv a grand total of 33 pairs of earrings... excluding a few pairs that are missing its twin... my mum's gonna nag when she sees that my collection has increased yet again!
Birthday at Plaza Sing....
Firstly.... thx to all who rushed all the way to Plaza Singapura on a weekday evening after work to cut cake with me... ^^ Even though the food that i intro-ed was god-damned awful.
Kudos to Seashell, who went all the way to Bukit Timah to pick up the cake she ordered.
To YT for arriving early despite busy work day where she had to travel around.
To Kenny for rushing to PS with us right after work with no break
To Bao-bei who also rushed with us after work with only enough time to change clothes
Introduced Ice Monster to my pals... the crushed ice topped with large helpings of fresh fruit and a big scoop of sherbet ice cream was famous there... Went to the basement of Plaza Singapura and sat right down to order the food. I ordered the Taiwan Beef Brisket Noodles there. Tasted it once n thought it was downright delicious.
Was totally disappointed. The prev time i tried the noodles the beef was downright delicious. Just a poke with the chopsticks and the beef brisket would break apart into soft delicious pieces, giving the soup flavour. There was also some delicous preserved vegetables that gave the soup a light salty flavour when stirred.
Instead it was totally soaked in oil. The beef was hard, overcooked and we could see all the fatty parts and ligaments in it. The soup was too salty. The Za Jiang Mian also came soaked in oil.
The Za Jiang Mian: (all the shiny liquid is oil... not water or sauce...)
The beef brisket noodles with overcooked beef floating in oily soup. dont ask me why the oil is brown... i don't know =(
The guo-tie (gyoza) came... in oil again... it was too salty and was served severely lacking one item. A sauce to dip in. First time i ate gyoza in a restaurant that served neither mayonnaise, shoyu nor vinegar with the gyozas. We realised there was a sauce corner for self-service.... which was abuzz with house-flies. Talk about turn-off.
Finally, we were about to be served the food that made Ice Monster famous enough to be featured in TV. The ice. The moment the 2 bowls of ice touched the table, the waitress declared: 60 dollars. In her china accent. =.=''' talk abt lousy service. we understand that the restaurant did not collect 10% service charge... but it didn't mean that she could be downright RUDE
The bowl of mixed fruit ice with a scoop of mango sherbet on top. It looked good....
Until we tasted it. Poor Kenny was the one who ordered it.... The strawberries were totally sour and unripe... the only thing that tasted worse was the kiwi fruit. Poor Seashell who was looking forward to her fav kiwi fruit... The kiwi was too ripe and on the verge of spoiling; it tasted wierd and bitter. The only edible thing was the mango, which was sweet and came in creamy mango sauce too.
The mango and durian ice which made Ice Monster famous. This is the only thing worth eating at the tiny restaurant.
Whilst we were eating dessert, my bro and his grp of 7 frenz came into Ice Monster and plopped their butts down at the other corner of the (ahem...) restaurant... and started flipping through the menu. So I motioned him to come over and gave him a piece of kiwi fruit... haha... he immediately blanched. I went over to his pals (consisting of 1 girl, 1 tomboy, 1 tiko-guy, 1 tall guy (Si-ee), 1 formally-dressed guy i didn't know, another 2 boys... all from his church centre MCYC) we strongly recommended dat they move to another restaurant for food... which, after listening to our endless tirade, they moved... so we separated.
After walking around and buying a little bit of titbits here and there to fill our unsatisfied tummies, we decided to go to starbucks, where we finally uncovered the cake that Seashell and YT had been holding all evening.
Special dark chocolate, rum and dark pitted cherry 6-inch cake from Awfully Chocolate.
The cake. Plain without decorations, but delicious looking ^^
Photo snapping time... Me trying to stop the wind from blowing out the 2 candles... heheh... we spot an intruder on the left side... oooh... its YT... *cackles*
Extremely Extremely LOUD birthday song... which caused every single Starbucks customer to swivel around and stare *blush*.... followed by a quick birthday wish and blowing the candles b4 the wind had the chance to. The poor cake was rather melted, which brought out the taste of rum rather strongly.... but the chocolate was very good ^^ Called my bro and asked him to head over quickly to eat his slice of cake; he had to abandon his half eaten spaghetti at PastaMania and rush upstairs to eat his cake.
Then it rained... fortunately after we had packed the remaining cake and pushed it onto Terence (my bro, duh) and asked him to share it amongst his own grp of frenz.
Then we did some additional shopping until Terence called and asked me to go to Swensens to have a slice of his cake... It was cookies n cream ice cream cake. Was totally bloated... but had to go and give him face... Since his friends asked him to invite me... No sense in giving cake to one twin and not the other right?
Swensens cake:
So in total... we had 3 birthday cakes~~!!! The cake from Awfully Chocolate which tasted totally awsome when finally put into the fridge when we headed home, the Swensens cookies n cream cake which was totally tasteless to me coz i was already too full to be in the mood for cake, and the cake that our mum bought for our birthday:
Total of 3 cakes...... its awsome to hv frenz!
But also totally fattening >_< !!!!
Birthday... BINGE
yikes. will grow fat fat fat soon wor~
went out on Sat night with Seashell & Hua-jie Kenny to Bt Timah for dinner. Planned on eating at the Tofu shop that was highly recommended by them, only to find the shop space FOR RENT. boohoo. So we had western cuisine instead at the cafe nearby. The chicken bolognese pasta was superb. We ordered a set meal to go with it, so i had a sweet iced tea (yummy too), a really good mushroom soup and for dessert, a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We sat on the sofas at the corner of the cafe for dessert and chatted for a nice long time.
Then Yan Sin smsed Kenny saying "tmr go orchard meet 6pm", after which K called Yan Sin and asked "go orchard for wat sia" and got the reply : celebrate Jac's bday.
LOL... the birthday girl (namely ME) was sitting opposite him saying HUH? Who wan meet Orchard celebrate MY birthday? Why nv tell ME, THE BIRTHDAY GIRL?
So we went out again yesterday to celebrate MY birthday early... Me, YT, Yan Sin, Kenny, Bao-bei & Sea-shell. met at bugis approx. 2pm+... went to Sim Lim square to hunt for Bao-Bei's iPhone charger. (some poor unlucky dude left an iPhone behind in Bao-bei's uncle's taxi & nv call to look for it) Hunted from 6th floor all the way back to 1st floor b4 finally finding it. Also met some ... unDesirables (J.K.Rowling's invented genius word) in Sim Lim. Fortunately, they weren't thick-skinned enough to tag along the whole day. Bunch of mood-wrecking brats... zzz...
After that we ate a little and went to Bugis Junction to shop around. Of course, with the GSS going on, the place was freaking crowded... didn't buy much. Bought a rose-water lotion at Missha for 10% discount... the toner was sold out T.T Seashell found the nail-polish she wanted and also bought 2 eye-glam powder... Since it was buy 2 get 1 free... she got a light blue and fuschia pink and got a dark green one for me ^^ so now i hv fuschia pink and green eyeshadow from missha.
Shopped around somemore then got ourselves constantly separated and lost on Hylam Street... 6 ppl going around in diff directions in pairs is definitely not advised on a crowded Sunday afternoon in Bugis. We spent more time looking for each other than shopping around... in the end, we went to V8 Cafe for dinner. Another western dinner.
The food was reasonably good, though not as gd as the one on Saturday evening. Ordered the signature dish, which was chicken and bacon in the so called special V8 sauce. Came with mashed potato, coleslaw n baby carrots. The bacon was too salty, the chicken was ok, the sauce was a little too cheesy for me. The mashed potato was really good though. Bao-bei ordered a smoked salmon salad and gave me all the salmon >.< i nearly choked and died eating it. I think the chef ROLLED the salmon slices in a box of salt.... too salty. The dessert was really good. I ordered a chocolate truffle cake. Too bad i was pretty full... would've enjoyed it more with an empty stomach. Poor Kenny ordered the worst dish.... baked rice which was basically just rice, chicken and too much cheese all over it. I think it was absolutely tasteless.
Then went to Kino at Orchard before heading home.
Already eaten so much oily food... and my birthday is not till tomorrow!!! Just bought the "shared-twin" birthday cake from Polar... and am still promised a chocolate-rum cake all for myself, no shared birthday candles, from Awfully Chocolate tmr!!! And also am gonna get lunch at Swensens tmr... FREE BIRTHDAY SUNDAE HERE I COME... lol.
June is a bad month for dieting.... gd month for getting fat.
And Bao-bei's bday is coming too! 25th June... yikes.
Funny scene
One of my fav romance/action movies: The Mask of Zorro... classic Spanish myth/legend. Catherine Zeta Jones + Antonio Banderas = funny sexual tension... heheh! This scene is their playful duel when Elena catches Zorro thieving around in her hacienda... damn hilarious ^^ watching the movie puts me in a gd mood
Bukit Panjang Plaza
Midnite madness!!!! Seriously seriously madness... yesterday night met Bao-bei at BP Plaza... never ever ever saw so many people in such a small shopping centre before... found out why when i saw the brochure for midnight madness... the entire place was having a freaking sale from 8pm-12am... the whole place was thronging with aunties... and many of them were pushing trolleys... including YT's mum who was shopping in NTUC.
Here's some of the crazy things going on.
  • Exchange coupon for 3 collagen eye masks free at GLO hair and beauty shop. Buy $88 worth of collagen eye product for $8. Korean nail polish $1 each. Hair treatment product: $5. Face masks: buy 1 get 1 free
  • Body Shop selected items up to 40% off. Body butter U.P. $29.90 = $16.90
  • O2Skin all products either Buy 1 get 1 free or selling for totally cheap price. E.g. eyeshadows & lipgloss for $2.90(U.P. $15.90)... $18.90 mascaras going for $4.90... soaps and shampoos going for $3.90
  • Watsons & Guardians having 20% sales
  • Tinkertoes all shoes $16.90
  • I.P Zone shirts going for $9.90
  • Buy a carton of coca cola (24 cans) for 10 cents with a receipt of $30. Limited to 1st 400 ppl.
  • M1 $30 coupon for every 2 yr contract signed.
  • Eu Yan Sang 20% sales
  • Fu Hua Tonics $10/bottle bird's nest. Limited to 1st 120.
All this resulted in: long queues leading all the way OUT of the shopping centre and around the building... crazy aunties queueing everywhere... shops supercrowded... women buying EVERY color of eyeshadow at O2Skin... me, bao-bei, YT and her mum taking shifts looking after the shopping trolley...lol... super loud talking from the speakers throughout the shopping centre... us buying so much stuff we didn't hv time to go to the 3rd floor to shop. Having to catch the last few buses home.
Got: $2.90 dark bluish eyeshadow, $2.90 lip gloss, $5.90 hair treatment, 3 free collagen eye mask, $16.90 papaya body butter from Body Shop
Wow... recently my table has become quite clogged up with beauty products... lol... in addition to the stuff i got yesterday... i recently also got free sample of face products from Dermafloral (6 small bottles of stinky herbal liquids lol), Anna Sui big bottle of Oil Cleanser (yoke choo didn't use it anymore and didn't want her sister to have the satisfaction of having it so she gave it to me), fuschia pink Missha eyeshadow (yoke choo didn't like pink either and didn't want to give it to her sister), Kose brand toner (free sample from yoke choo since she works under Kose's cosmetic brand, Fasio).
No wonder my mum keeps asking me if i splurged all my money... lol... she thought the papaya seed oil Body Butter was edible because of its fragrance... she fears it will attract ants... lol... am now broke.
Bored.
Am posting coz i'm bored... laptop is now defragging... hopefully after defrag less laggy. Since there were no viruses or spyware or adware after all the scanning... my diagnosis was that my hard drive was too crammed... so... hv to defrag it for now. Can't play music or any audio coz of the lag while defragging. Strictly speaking i'm supposed to actually leave it alone while it does its work... but i guess i can use the internet since it doesn't actually utilise the hard-drive much... right?
Doing abit of reading since there's nth much to do.
Shakespeare Sonnet 2
Who will believe my verse in time to come,
If it were fill'd with your most high deserts?
Though yet, heaven knows, it is but as a tomb
Which hides your life and shows not half your parts.
If I could write the beauty of your eyes
And in fresh numbers number all your graces,
The age to come would say 'This poet lies:
Such heavenly touches ne'er touch'd earthly faces.'
So should my papers yellow'd with their age
Be scorn'd like old men of less truth than tongue,
And your true rights be term'd a poet's rage
And stretched metre of an antique song:
But were some child of yours alive that time,
You should live twice; in it and in my rhyme.
Summarised and modernised version for better understanding:
Who will believe my poem in the far future
If it was written full of praise about your beauty.
Even though heaven knows
That it will not even tell us about half of all you are.
If I could describe the beauty of your eyes
And list everything good about you,
In future there will be readers who say: "The poem is not true
Because such heavenly beauty has never existed"
In the far future
Readers will laugh at my poem
And your true beauty will be known as a writer's exaggeration
That is stretched far from the truth
But if you have a child that lives in this age and time,
Then your beauty will live twice more after your death.
In the child, and in my poem.
Shakespeare Sonnet 55
Not marble, nor the gilded monuments
Of princes, shall outlive this powerful rhyme;
But you shall shine more bright in these contents
Than unswept stone besmear'd with sluttish time.
When wasteful war shall statues overturn,
And broils root out the work of masonry,
Nor Mars his sword nor war's quick fire shall burn
The living record of your memory.
'Gainst death and all-oblivious enmity
Shall you pace forth; your praise shall still find room
Even in the eyes of all posterity
That wear this world out to the ending doom.
So, till the judgment that yourself arise,
You live in this, and dwell in lover's eyes.
Modernised version:
Not even stone or golden statues of princes
Can outlive this poem of mine
But you shall shine more brightly in my poem
Than stone which will become dirty and unswept in time
When wars overturn statues
And tree roots destroy stones
Even the God of War, his sword nor the fire of wars
Shall destroy this poem, which is the living record of your memory.
Against death and all other enemies,
You will live on, this poem will still exist
In the eyes of all the people
Who live until the end of the world
So until judgement day,
You will continue living in this poem, and every lover's eyes.
Is it strange for someone like me to be reading these 400 yr old love poems? haha... Mrs Poretti's literature lessons have kinda affected me a little... but i do think Shakespeare's Sonnets are darn right cool...(even if historians claim that he's gay) especially since what they say come true... about the poem surviving after death and wars... and in it the lover's beauty remains.
Might sound cheesy, but if someone were to write a sonnet to me... i'd totally fall for it... unless it was sent in email... this sort of stuff works better hand-written right... Unfortunately this form of romance is almost entirely extinct in modern times... haha... super mushy rite?
Had fun translating this poems into understandable english... i go bath now... Shakespeare has put me in a gd mood.... heheh!
I think...
certain ppl are just not worth bothering with... dat's why i spend so much time on the laptop... which btw seems to be slowing down T.T oh no~~~~ warranty has expired... if it dies on me i shall die too... am scanning now...
wish i knew how to read tadpoles... then mayb i'd go b a music teacher or do sth related to music...
Updating whole of last wk heheh...
Mon:
slacked at hme... did nth.... watched abit of online shows... a movie named Flicka... not bad... about a girl and her friendship with a wild horse. Loved the cinematography, the view of the mountains with the horses is really gd...
Tues:
Jio-ed out by YT (haru)... went to IMM and looked at Ipods... she bought an 80gb silver one. $380 flew out of her pockets haha. The black rubber casing for the Ipod had us stumped. So hard to stick the Ipod into it...
Then slacked on the sofas at Subway until 5pm+ when Boon Mei (Baobei) arrived. Treated us to Cafe Cartel dinner... not worth it. Heard the pork ribs were superb but we decided to try the deep fried platter for 3 ppl... too oily, had a stomachache =( in the end she spent $50 on our dinner... Most disgusting Cafe Cartel food ever. Next time I'll try the famous Pork Ribs instead. Should be more worth the money.
Then went to Poh Heng Jewellery to look at gold... not for us of course... gals our age do NOT wear gold =.='''' YT bought a gold orchids pendant for her mum whereas Boon Mei bought a heart-shaped pendant for her mum too...
Wed:
YT went to Genting =( so she missed our little KTV world session. Met at Jurong b4 going to Taman Jurong Shopping Centre's KTV world. The KTV world there gave us 1 hr free of singing ^^ so we sang till midnite... haha... Some of the songs were REALLY REALLY SUPER LAME... but we chose them for a laugh... especially Baa Baa Black Sheep... rofl... as usual the drinks were HORRIBLE... if i were the boss i would hire some ppl who actually made decent drinks. Next time I will ONLY drink canned drinks or honey water... kind of hard to screw those drinks up...
Dat's about all the activities i did for this wk... haha... Last night there was a HUGE STORM...woke my mom and me up... the sky kept flashing and i kept bracing myself for sudden thunder... luckily there wasnt much thunder in the end... this morning woke up, looked out of my living room window, and saw this:
Somehow the wind totally cleaved the signboard into a beautiful half haha... my mum said somewhere some trees fell down too...
Something exciting this way comes: who wanna catch this movie with me?
5 things that DISGUST me
1) House lizards in bright light. I can see their innards if they're crawling over a light >_<
2) My bro when he demolishes an entire family-size block of chocolate and the chocolate is melting all over his fingers (bluurrrgh) Its also pretty disgusting when he finishes a 1 kg pack of raisins within hours... or something with similarly high sugar content. It just shows his unwillingness to share and his greed... i predict diabetes >_< 3) Stir-fried brinjal... They're slimy and sticky. I'm still OK with brinjal in Thai green curry and deep fried ones.
4) Lecherous old men sitting at kopitiams drinking beer and teasing women. The ones that stare at a girl openly are disgusting too...
5) The Japanese manga MPD Psycho... it's just... more psychotic than all of the CSI series combined...
Iron Man
^^ went to watch Iron Man ytd with YT, Sandy and hua-jie Kenny ytd... tickets were a little pricey but the movie was worth it!
Had my doubts when Kenny said the movie's main character was an "uncle", albeit a not bad looking uncle... heheh.
The character development was very very good... the director made the right choice by going for a more mature character rather than a hot-looking youngster... Robert Downey Jr. made a very believable Iron Man... his jokes were real funny and I could really relate to the scenes when he seemed to be in conflict with himself. I must say he looked really upset when his eyes went bloodshot and he looked like he was gonna cry.... AW...
The CGI was truly amazing. Unlike Transformers, which had a little too much CGI during the fight scenes and made me feel motion-sick after watching them transforming while rolling in mid-air, the CGI in Iron Man was just nice. Makes me really believe that Tony Starks was a true technological genius... with the exception of his pet robot of course... ^^
Love the constant humour throughout the movie... Tony Starks was so funny...
Shall not give out any spoilers coz the movie was great. Shall recommend it to everyone... plz go to the cinema to enjoy the full experience...
New fan of Robert Downey Jr, signing out.
New Layout
yea... new layout... not my fav... still trying to find something... at least managed to change the damn font to my liking... dun like blogger new widget thingy.... so hard to customize in html codes. =_='''
Anyways, didn't hv time to update abt yesterday. Went out at around 8.20am to market... YT wanted to shop around... her mum came along... so we went around looking at the Saturday morning clothing stores, they always open on weekends only. Had to squeeze ourselves with the auntie-crowds. Then we went off to B.Batok east market. There was only 1 shop selling korean clothing, which was not bad, but the sales-woman was a little too enthusiastic and kept bugging me... I didn't really see any nice clothing there, but they sell really really really nice looking shoes. I didn't try any shoes, coz no money mah... later try liao regret no money haha.
Then YT's mum paid for my breakfast ($2 porridge) and went home 1st. So we both walked to West Mall to find Hua-jie. He gave us about $50+ worth of Ezone arcade tokens (so gd to hv a godbro working at arcade) and left us to play our games. We played some shooting games, 2 racing games, then i bombed about $10+ on ONE shooting game... it got too addicting and i refused to give up no matter how many times i died... haha. Kept dying every 3 min. lol... then we both went on to play Ocean Hunter (oh, my poor aching arms).
Finally we moved on to my fav. game. The table puck hockey ^^ We played like crazy ppl... can literally hear the bang sound when we hit the puck... haha. We're not the kind who play gentle haha. The table kept shooting out 3 pucks at one go.... we went crazy haha. I think alot of ppl stared at us when we screamed during a goal... >_< color="#999999">After finishing the BAGS of tokens we moved on to shop around. Nothing much around in West Mall so we went to This Fashion to get YT's working pants. (office girl liao arh) Saw a nice sweater blouse... very cute n korean-looking... but the collar made me feel so stifled... i would never survive in the sun if i wore that... $27... didn't hv the $$$ to buy it... mayb if i still miss it after a few days i shall buy it... ^^
i think that's abt it... how i spent my saturday. signing out...
WHY
WHY...
  • must I be answerable to what my brother does. How would I know why he doesn't want to go to his camp today?
  • do I have to be the royal babysitter
  • must I explain to his even his FREAKING OFFICER where he is and why
  • does everyone ask me to talk to him and advise him
  • does everyone assume I must take care of him when I am the YOUNGER ONE HERE.
  • am I always the one who gets blamed when he pulls off another stunt
  • do I have to listen to the nagging
  • does my mum even bother to listen and believe his lies
  • does my mum even CARE ANYMORE
  • does my brother lack the cognitive abilities to perceive Cause > Effect? Can't he realise dat if he does a particular thing, it will get him into trouble? It's not like he hasn't done things that get him into trouble half a god-damn-zillion times
  • does my mum assume I can stop him from doing what he wants, it's not like he nv HIT me before bcoz of petty thing
  • does my brother want me to stop treating him like he's a little boy and scolding, and start treating him like he's got more seniority than me when he's such a little scumbag?
  • does my mood have to dive along with his little escapades
  • didn't his Detention Barracks lock him up for 10 months instead of 10 days
  • didn't my mum end OUR misery by drowning him in a bucket when he was a baby
  • didn't she end MY misery by drowning me when i was a baby
  • do the adults still tell me to look out for him and "advise" him after SO MANY YEARS, at the FREAKING AGE OF 20
Haiz~ emo today evening. Stupid idiot spoilt my mood. Now my mum so kan-chiong, keep bugging me. I dun even care anymore. Nor do I look for any reasons why he does the things he does. Coz there are none. He doesn't care what he puts other people through so why should I care.... juz flop over and die lar.
Movie: DOOMSDAY
Free tickets... in a SMALL preview theatre tucked in some corner of an office building (the Shaw Center, 13th floor to be precise) Thx Baobei for the free preview ticket... 4 free invitations to preview the movie Doomsday.
The movie itself was a whole different matter... I think even if someone PAYS me... I wouldn't watch it again in the preview theatre...
1) No food and drinks allowed... No popcorn even... =( I was starving at 6 already
2) The movie was.... pointless
3) The theatre was small... free seating. The person in the control room should've at least lowered the volume as there were few people to absorb sound, and save our eardrums from Doom.
The movie was about a disease that wiped out the whole city of Glasgow. The entire city was quarantined and millions of civilians left to die. A young girl makes it out alive but her mother was left behind.
30+ yrs later the virus resurfaces again in New York and the girl, all grown up, is sent with an elite team back into Glasgow to find survivors and the cure. In there, everyone is killed one by one...
By a barbaric/cannibalistic tribe of tattooed, mohawk-hairstyle cannibals in punk rock clothing =.=
30+ yrs into the future in a city with no supply, no outside help and hardly any electricity and food, and people dress themselves in punk rock clothes & tattooes???
Then comes the wierder part... the main characters escape the punk rock tribe... only to run into a group of people wearing even wierder clothing... MEDIEVAL clothes.
Full suit of metal armour, cloak, helmet, sword/spear/arrows & big saddled horses included. They get brought into a CASTLE where everyone wears FULLY MEDIEVAL TIME CLOTHING. (Think Robin Hood, King Arthur, Eragon, Lord of the Rings with none of the beauty or flair) Talk about wierd! 30 yrs into the future when there's no more clothing left, the seamstresses design MEDIEVAL CLOTHING?
Hey, at least come up with something that's more original and less ripped off from "King Arthur & the Knights of the Round Table". Even throwing in something from modern times, like a baseball cap, would make a big difference to the scenes.
The female protaganist gets thrown into an... ARENA... first thought that comes to your mind. GLADIATOR + TOMB RAIDER. Sure enough... everyone's prediction came true. The chick with sexy matte black tomb raider clothing beats up the gladiator n kills him. Then she and her remaining comrades break out.
By now, i was praying for the movie to end.... >_~The end...~
Talk about bizarre. The movie stank of deja-vus.
1) There was rip-off from 28 days/weeks later, Resident Evil trilogy storylines. The movie parts were a collage of scenes reminiscent of other movies thrown together.
2) The costume, props and make up was ripped-off from Starship Troopers (the quarantine armor-suit for the soldiers and technological weapons), Apocalypto (the tattoos), Robin Hood/King Arthur (medieval armours), James Bond (super cool, sleek black car), Resident Evil/Tomb Raider/Underworld(sexy matte black clothes for the female main character)
It resembled some badly-done horror movies in which the producers probably got a paint company to sponsor gallons and gallons of red paint for free. Then the effects-artists were told that they had free reign. There was excessive gore everywhere... not to mention an innocent rabbit was harmed in the process of production. And of course, the castle of "Camelot" that appeared out of nowhere topped it up and into the world of CRAAAAAZY...
To fully express how I felt after the movie, here's a Quote from movie's main character SinClaire when she answered the bad guy's qn.
Baddie: What did you have to lose?
Hot chick: I lost my fucking mind. (chops off enemy's head)
17 million pounds was wasted on the production of this pointless movie. I would like to congratulate the scriptwriter on managing to sell the script to the suckers who actually used it to produce a movie. Congrats too to the production company who managed to suck 17 million from the sponsors.
As for the director, erm, how about try harder next time... or... try a documentary next time... at least you will be forced to do some actual research on FACTS before u can make anything... and a few diploma classes on how to take proper cinematic shots would be good too... Please don't try to copy Resident Evil or 28 Days Later again... and hire some voice actors too.
Total waste of time... it granted me nothing but a headache... the trip to Carl's Junior burger at Far East Plaza was much better than the preview itself. The tiny theatre was pretty nice... too bad the movie was not. I think my IQ dropped a few points and I lost a few brain cells.
WHAT THE FUCK.
WHAT THE FUCK ...
My dad didnt pay the Internet bills... the person from Starhub called... Haiz... WTH...
First he doesn't pay the phone bills until the day our handphones are cut off... He even managed to accumulate over $300 of phone bills.
And now he owes the internet bills too.... where the FUCK does the money even go to...
WHAT DOES HE DO WITH THE MONEY IF HE DOESNT PAY THE FUCKING BILLS...
I mean, other than the obvious.... spending it on OTHER WOMEN... going drinking with his colleagues... WTH happened to staying healthy and vegetarianism... I supposed he forgot about his vows now he's gotten a taste of "China CHICKEN" (whore)
Hey, I accept that my parents' relationship is over, period. But definitely not his responsibility towards this family... Wat the hell does he do with all the CPF money that he withdrew in this past year if he doesn't pay the bills with them... he's got over 50grand of $ing dollars ready to be withdrawn!
When I tell him to pay for the fucking bills later he's definitely gonna BITCH about how I'm not in sch anymore and doesn't NEED the FREAKING INTERNET... JUST BCOZ HE DOESN'T KNOW HOW TO USE IT DOESN'T MEAN I DON'T NEED TO USE IT...
knnbccb....
Only know how to give money to china whore... everytime spend money call that woman... he thinks nobody knows what he does outside of this house...
Heaty sia....
G'morning world...
Going to get sore throat soon... woke up this morning with blocked nose and raspy voice... haiz~ muz b bcoz of sunday's singing... haha...
Went to party world ktv @ woodlands civic centre on sunday to sing k... fun and horrible sounding... but fun... lol... ended up paying $21 each which is not bad for a weekend night.... Kbox would have cost over $30... even got a coupon... dun tink i could last an 8 hr K-session, guyz... especially with the drinks they provide... I think they forgot to add water to the bubble tea after adding milk to the syrup. It was the sweetest drink I had since Hua-jie made bubble tea for me when he was working at the cinema bites a few yrs back... LOL... no offence Hua-jie...
Am going broke... this mth's purse-strings are TIGHT, TIGHT, TIGHT
Spent:
1) $99 on SK jewellery for Mother's Day present... a set of stud pearl earrings + pendant
2) lent $ to certain person
3) $10+ window shopping with YT
4) at least $30 on transport fees
5) $21 singing KTV ^^
6) Passed my mum $50
7) $20+ on lingerie
OMG... my i withdrew $200 at the beginning of this mth and its gonna disappear so quickly!!! Hv to get back money from the ppl who owe me.... T_T
Shopping in vain
Sighs... I'd like to complain.... Firstly about my giant feet... Then about my thunder-thighs...
Went shopping today at Far East Plaza...
I can't help it that most of the shops which sell pretty shoes stock up to size 39-40 only... My left foot is 41!!! Wth... And my freaking long "monkey-toes" mean I can't wear most of the cute round-front shoes in fashion this year, coz my toe cracks will be visible... Yucks...
Anyway, YT went with me... and she managed to get a pair of really cute pumps at the Mondo warehouse sale... $9.90... SIGH... I wanna take a page from Cinderella's step-sister's book... chop off the front or back of the foot in order to squeeze into Cinderella's glass slipper... T_T
Another bad choice was to go shopping for skinny jeans... I was already enlightened during Chinese New Year shopping period that my thighs were not suited for skinny jeans..... YET. SIGH.... With my wierd knees (I have ROUND, FLAT knee-caps... another kudos to my parents for my lousy win in genetic lottery) it's HARD to get my legs skinny... I've NEVER had skinny legs in my entire life... at the very most, they were NORMAL looking... now they're FAT...
Time to diet... Slim down... sigh... diet 1st, shop later... haha...
Signing out~~
